Plymouth is a lively city on the southern coast of Devon, England. Known as the “Ocean City”, It is approximately 36 miles southwest of Exeter and 193 miles southwest of London. The city is adjacent to Cornwall on its western and southwestern borders.
Plymouth is renowned for its fascinating maritime history, breathtaking coastal views, and lively cultural scene, providing tourists with many things to see and do.
The city of Plymouth has been greatly influenced by its relationship with the sea, trade, and warfare, particularly evident in the historic Barbican area. This charming old port features narrow cobbled streets, well-preserved Elizabethan warehouses, unique speciality shops, art galleries, cosy cafes, and restaurants.
Driving through Plymouth offers a mix of experiences depending on the time of day, traffic conditions, and weather. Plymouth has a comprehensive network of major roads and smaller residential streets. The A386 and A374 are the primary routes within the city.
The city is connected to the rest of the country via the A38 dual carriageway, which runs through the city and connects to the M5 motorway. Because there is only way into Plymouth by road if you're coming from anywhere other than Cornwall, Tavistock or Modbury that's on the A38, and when that is shut or blocked, it can lead to long delays.
Navigating the main roads is relatively straightforward, but some smaller streets can be narrow and winding. With Plymouth being a coastal city, the weather can be a factor in influencing your journey.
For many people in Plymouth, leasing a car is a more attractive option than buying one outright. Are you looking to find your next lease car and live in Plymouth?
There is no “Pay to Drive” scheme in force for Plymouth.
The air quality in Plymouth is generally good, with only a few areas exceeding the government's nitrogen dioxide level targets. These high levels are mostly due to emissions from road traffic.
In Plymouth, only one Air Quality Management Area (AQMA) covers the entire city. This is because the levels of nitrogen dioxide have exceeded national objectives. The AQMA includes areas such as Exeter Street, Mutley Plain, Stoke Village, Royal Parade, Tavistock Road, and all the roads that connect them.
Under the Connect Plymouth initiative, Plymouth is set to have more than 300 charging bays spread across 50 locations. These charging bays will include 50kW rapid and 100kW ultra-rapid charge points, which Wenea will provide.

These innovative charge points only rise when used, offering electric vehicle drivers a safe, discreet, attractive, and low-cost charging solution. The UEOne charge points are designed for convenient kerbside parking, making them an ideal option for residents and visitors.
