Power for this impressive family car comes from a range of efficient petrol and diesel engines with each one delivering lots of response. The Volvo V60 engine choice includes three 2.0 litre diesel engines with four cylinders, along with a T5 petrol unit. There are also two petrol-electric plug-in hybrids. The engines are mated to a six-speed manual gearbox that's a smooth performer or the firm's eight-speed automatic transmission which delivers the power effortlessly. There's also good fuel economy with the smaller diesel unit returning 64 mpg with emissions of 117g/km while the petrol T5 will return around 44 mpg with emissions of 150g/km.

There's also an innovative touchscreen fitted as standard, which includes satnav and a lifetime of map updates. Volvo also offers its On Call connected service which V60 drivers are able to control some functions from their smartwatch or smartphone, including the ability to cool or heat the cabin before they get in or set the satnav system for their destination. The other big attraction for the Volvo V60 is for the excellent and cutting-edge safety equipment. This list includes the firm's city safety system which delivers automatic emergency braking when an animal, cyclist or pedestrian is detected in front of the car. Opt for a model with better specification and you will find leather upholstery, front parking sensors, chrome exterior trim and a head-up display for the windscreen. Some models also have bending LED headlights with adaptive shadow technology.
All of the engines deliver excellent levels of performance and the automatic gearbox is particularly impressive when driving around town as the Volvo V60 is responsive with good feedback from the road. On motorways, the V60 is a very quiet car with lots of comfort to make even long distances a joy - you will arrive feeling refreshed.
