Overview of the Vauxhall Grandland X

Engines and performance for the Vauxhall Grandland X

There are three engines available for the Vauxhall Grandland X: there's an impressive 1.2 litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 130 PS to deliver economy of 57 mpg. There's also a 1.5 litre turbocharged diesel unit producing 130 PS to return economy of 55 mpg. Vauxhall also added a turbocharged 2.0 litre diesel unit after the Grandland X's launch to deliver 177 PS and economy of 46mpg. The engines are mated to either a six-speed manual box or six-speed automatic transmission which features start/stop as standard. While the Grandland X is one of the most frugal compact SUV's available, this doesn't mean that the engines are poorly performing since they produce plenty of torque to deliver power and ability.

Equipment and handling

The Vauxhall Grandland X has a sporty design and the raised seating positions give good all-round visibility. The seats are comfortable and the interior has been made with quality materials to give it an upmarket look. The car is essentially designed for an active lifestyle with plenty of space for five passengers. Its off-road aesthetic has been boosted by body cladding and sculpted wheel arches. It's also worth noting that the Grandland X doesn't come with four-wheel-drive but it does have the option of the firm's grip and control system that will boost traction in slippery conditions. The dashboard is well laid out with everything in easy reach, particularly accessing the chassis functions, climate control and infotainment. Safety is boosted by the selection of various driver assistance systems including automatic cruise control and automatic emergency braking. There's also advanced park assist and driver drowsiness alert. Vauxhall has also added it's OnStar service which connects the driver to a concierge service, so you can book a hotel while on the road. Smartphones can be charged wirelessly, though this is an option, and can be integrated into the infotainment system. Essentially, while the Vauxhall Grandland X is not designed for extensive and ambitious off-roading, it's certainly worth considering for those who want the extra space, equipment and nice levels of handling around town in a safe and well-built vehicle.
