Overview of the Ford C-MAX

Impressive build quality and lots of equipment

Great car to drive

As a five-seater SUV, there's a lot to recommend the Ford C-Max, which is great fun to drive and there's lots of equipment on board. If you would prefer seven seats, as many of its rivals offer, then you need to look at the Ford Grand C-Max. There's plenty of space in the C-Max and it's a sound choice for families wanting an impressive and well-made car.

Engines and performance for the Ford C-Max

There's a choice of six engines for the Ford C-Max, including an impressive 1.6 litre petrol unit producing 123 bhp and it is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. Other choices include the firm's 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine with three cylinders producing either 99 bhp or 123 bhp and this is a great performer around town - even when the C-Max is fully loaded. Diesel engines include a 1.5 litre TDCI producing 103 bhp or 117 bhp and there's a 2.0 litre diesel producing 148 bhp - which comes with the firm's impressive Powershift automatic gearbox. The 1.6 litre petrol unit returns 61 mpg and is ideal for driving around town and particularly on long motorway journeys.

Equipment and handling

As potential drivers will expect, the Ford C-Max comes with lots of equipment and even the entry-level model features alloy wheels, Bluetooth connectivity, heated front windscreen and DAB radio. The C-Max also features adaptive cruise control and will maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front. Other potential owners may enjoy the hands-free tailgate for effortless closing and opening of the hatchback and there's a pre-collision assist that will detect pedestrians and vehicles in the road ahead and sound alerts and then automatically apply the brakes to avoid a collision. The Sync3 infotainment system uses a touchscreen that is intuitive and utilises voice commands and offers more functionality than the other systems. There are only three trim levels to choose from and the option of a sunroof really makes a spacious interior seem much larger. The C-Max is also highly rated for crash test safety, which will bring peace of mind for those using the vehicle as family transport. Essentially, the Ford C-Max is one of the best family-focused people carriers currently available with lots of space, high comfort levels and a (surprisingly) rewarding driving experience.
