Under the bonnet of the Mercedes AMG GT, and to help explain the price tag, there's a hand-built 4.0 litre V8 petrol engine growling with life. The engine is mated to the firm's quick-shifting seven-speed sports transmission to deliver a quick transfer of power to the wheels. The GT engine produces 476 HP with an impressive torque of 630 Nm so it will sprint from 0 to 62 mph in just four seconds. It has a top speed of 189 mph. Fuel economy for this level of performance is around 25 mpg, both for the roadster and the GT coupe.

Equipment and handling

The Mercedes AMG GT was revamped in 2019 with tweaks to the exterior and improvements to performance levels. There are nine models in the line-up, including a roadster and a coupe with new exhaust tailpipes, headlights and a rear view camera being installed. The firm also added parking assistant and parking sensors. On-board the comfortable car, there's a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, the AMG performance steering wheel with touch control buttons and an electrically extending rear aerofoil to help performance. The AMG GT also comes with 19-inch alloy wheels, heated seats and a performance exhaust system. Drivers can also enjoy automatic climate control, keyless-go starting function and rear axle limited slip differential. The power and grip is also helped by the 'ride control' sports suspension which features an adjustable damper system for when the car is being put through its paces, particularly when cornering, so the tyres will still grip the Tarmac. In addition, Mercedes offer a range of packages that add extra driver assistance systems and a better sound system among the features. Some may even consider the carbon fibre package which adds a diffuser to the rear apron along with an air inlet grille and exterior mirror housings. Essentially, for anyone who needs a stunning level of performance in an impressively well-designed and well-made two seater, then the Mercedes AMG GT will offer everything you are looking for and more.
