Engines and performance for the Mitsubishi Mirage
The Mitsubishi Mirage comes with a 1.2 litre three-cylinder petrol engine producing 80 PS and is mated to either a manual gearbox or a CVT automatic transmission. The manual box offers a perky performance, while the automatic gearbox delivers smooth city driving. Mitsubishi says that the economy is around 60 mpg with emissions of 107g/km for the manual box - but will be less depending on the driver's style. The automatic version will return around 48 mpg.
Equipment and handling
The Mitsubishi Mirage sits in an unusual place in the supermini segment in that it's affordable to run and not overpriced with nice looks and nice comfort levels. It's up against better known rivals and there are two trims to choose from and both offer a decent specification list. This includes alloy wheels, rear spoiler, air conditioning and Bluetooth connectivity. The sound system is quite good and the vehicle also includes keyless entry and automatic rain sensors. For the money, the Mitsubishi Mirage 3 is well specified and includes stop and go and pushbutton start. The alternative is the Mitsubishi Mirage 4 which includes satnav, smartphone connectivity and DAB radio. Drivers also get cruise control, climate control and heated front seats, plus larger alloy wheels and rear parking sensors. The equipment list pitches the Mirage effectively against its better-known rivals and for driving in towns and cities, it is a comfortable car with a responsive engine. It's also, for a city car, quite spacious with a boot size of 175 litres and it offers some practicality for those who want a hard wearing cabin in a cheap to run supermini.
