Porsche Taycan Review, Specs & Performance

Excellent electric sports car

Lots of tech and comfort

The Porsche Taycan is the carmaker's first all-electric car and it is excellent in every respect. There's lots of technology on board and high comfort levels, but it is still, at its heart, a great Porsche to drive.

Overview of the Porsche Taycan

Engines and performance for the Porsche Taycan

The Porsche Taycan is powered by a 93.4 kW lithium-ion battery which is located between the two axles and each has a motor attached. There is a two-speed gearbox, so the Taycan delivers excellent acceleration from a standing start, and once up to speed, the transmission moves to become an efficient vehicle. The battery range is 280 miles though you need to drive steadily to achieve this.

Equipment and handling

There will be Porsche purists who will not believe the all-electric Taycan can deliver the thrills and fun that the proud carmaker's heritage has done previously - but the Taycan achieves all of this and more. The electric motors deliver power and there's no doubt that the handling is similar to that of the 911 and as the firm's first all-electric creation, it's an impressive one. The 0-62 mph sprint time is an impressive 3.2 seconds - though using launch control will reduce this to a silent and incredibly fast 2.6 seconds. More impressively, the Turbo S has 616 bhp available and a range of 256 miles. There are wider tyres and carbon ceramic brakes fitted as standard to help deliver the performance. Around town, the Porsche Taycan is an effortless car to drive, it's very comfortable and silent in operation. The driving fun is delivered in spades on country roads and it's a great performer on motorway journeys too. There's a 10.9-inch infotainment touchscreen to access satnav and information. The system is easy-to-use and there is a range of driving modes to adjust the throttle and air suspension to deliver the thrills. The cabin space is quite impressive for the dimensions though the rear seats are more suited to not-so-tall-adults and children. The cabin space is helped because the battery is placed under the floor. The boot is similar in size to a VW Golf and there's a small boot in the front too. There's a decent list of standard equipment and the option of a panoramic roof is highly recommended. Essentially, the Porsche Taycan is an excellent and well-made sports car made by experts and it delivers an authentic Porsche driving experience. And even though its all-electric power may put potential buyers off, it's highly recommended for those who enjoy fast cars without generating emissions; the Taycan undoubtedly offers a lot for those who want an unusual and impressive sports car.
